Miami murder-suicide victims identified as former New England College hockey players

Two women who were fatally shot in a suspected double murder-suicide in Miami over the weekend have been identified as former New England College hockey players Sidney Capolino, a native New Yorker, and Meghan Moore, who was also the gunman’s girlfriend.

Authorities said Moore and Capolino lived together in the Windsor Ludlam Trail Apartments in Southwest Miami-Dade, where they were killed Saturday night, NBC 6 reported.

Officers were called to the condominium complex just before 9 p.m. to investigate reports of gunfire, police said Monday. When they arrived on the scene, near Bird Road and Southwest 70th Court, they found 25-year-old Moore suffering a fatal gunshot wound just outside the building. As they attempted to help her, officers heard a shot ring out from inside and evacuated the building as a result.

A special response team was called in to assist and quickly cleared the complex, according to authorities. Inside, officers discovered two more people, 23-year-old Capolino and 40-year-old Luis Napoles, suffering fatal gunshot wounds.

Police said Capolino drove two miles to the residence, where he shot Moore, his girlfriend, and her roommate before turning the gun on himself. All three were pronounced dead on the scene.

Officials at New England College, a liberal arts school in New Hampshire, confirmed to NBC 6 on Monday that both Moore and Capolino played for its women’s hockey team.

“Meghan and Sidney were known to many on campus, and we are deeply saddened by this devastating news,” New England College President Dr. Wayne F. Lesperance, Jr. said in a  message to the school community.

“We are keeping Sidney and Meghan’s families and friends in our thoughts and prayers at this difficult time,” he continued, adding that counseling services will be made available for those who need them.

According to their bios, which are still listed on the school’s athletics website, Moore, who was from Centerville, Mass., was also a standout player for Barnstable High School’s hockey team. Capolino, meanwhile, grew up in Pawling, New York, about 60 miles outside the city.

Authorities have not yet provided a motive for the deadly violence and an investigation into the matter is ongoing.
