Hijacked bus crashes into Los Angeles hotel

An alleged hijacker took over a bus and collided with several vehicles before crashing into a hotel late Wednesday night in Los Angeles.

The suspect hopped on an LA County Metropolitan Transit Authority bus in downtown around 11:10 p.m. local time while only the driver was onboard. He grabbed his waistband to indicate he had a gun and said “just drive,” the Los Angeles Police Department said in a statement Thursday.

He made other threats and then grabbed the wheel as the driver was turning, hitting several vehicles before crashing through a wall and into the Ritz-Carlton hotel near the GRAMMY Museum at L.A. Live around 11:40 p.m.

The ordeal was captured by multiple security cameras and dashcams.

The man fled the scene and was later arrested on suspicion of kidnapping. An airsoft gun was recovered near the bus.

The suspect was identified Thursday afternoon as Anai Lindsey, who is currently being held on $100,000 bail. Police described Lindsey as unhoused and from Nevada.

No motive for the hijacking was given.

The driver was treated at a hospital and released a short time later. A woman whose car was struck by the bus remains hospitalized but in stable condition, officials said. Neither was identified.

No other injuries were reported.
