WW3 fears rise as Emmanuel Macron on brink of sending troops to Ukraine war frontline

French President Emmanuel Macron has warned that he could send troops to Ukraine’s frontline as fears about the possibility of World War 3 escalate.

President Macron claimed earlier this week that there would be “no more red lines” as the war continues to intensify over two years after it started.

According to L’independent, President Macron showed maps to senior government officials earlier this week at a meeting in the Elysee Palace. The maps showed potential places which Russia could advance into such as the country’s capital Kyiv.

He added that should Russia move too far west it could trigger the introduction of French troops into the conflict and potentially increase NATO’s involvement.

Following his comments, there are now growing concerns that Vladimir Putin’s illegal war in Ukraine could soon be fought elsewhere in Europe.

Following President Macron’s comments, Colonel-General Vladimir Zarudnitsky told the Sun: “The possibility of an escalation of the conflict in Ukraine – from the expansion of participants in ‘proxy forces’ used for military confrontation with Russia to a large-scale war in Europe – cannot be ruled out.”

Colonel-General Zarudnitsky added: “The likelihood of our state being purposefully drawn into new military conflicts is significantly increasing.”

The escalation in tension comes just days after Europe announced a new defence plan known as the European Defence Industrial Strategy which aims to incentivise the bloc to work cooperatively on defence.

Furthermore, the UK also announced its intentions to send more than 10,000 drones worth £325million to Ukraine to help in its fight against Russia. The announcement was made by Defence Secretary Grant Shapps on a visit to Ukraine.

In a statement, Mr Shapps said: “I am ramping up our commitment to arm Ukraine with cutting-edge new drones coming directly from the UK’s world-leading defence industries – straight from the factory floor to the frontline.

“I encourage international partners to join the UK in this effort. Ukraine’s Armed Forces are using UK donated weapons to unprecedented effect, to help lay waste to nearly 30 percent of Russia’s Black Sea Fleet.”

The drones are the latest piece of military hardware to be donated to Ukraine after the UK sent some of its Challenger 2 tanks to bolster the country’s armoured capability.
