WPIX11 news van strikes adult and two children walking to school in NJ

A news van belonging to WPIX-TV struck three pedestrians, including two children, Friday morning in Elizabeth, N.J.

Officials said the two young children and their aunt, not immediately identified, sustained non-life threatening injuries when the van hit them about 8 a.m. as they were crossing on a crosswalk near Elizabeth Ave. near Fifth St. on their way to the children’s school.

They said the aunt had to be pulled from under the van and one of the children suffered a broken leg.

The driver of the van stayed at the scene, officials added.

A spokesperson for WPIX released a statement later Friday, saying, “Our hearts go out to those involved and their families. We are fully cooperating with the authorities as they investigate this incident. At this time, our primary focus is on the well-being of those injured.”

WPIX, a popular news station broadcasting on Channel 11 in NYC, is owned by The CW Television Network and operated by CW majority owner Nexstar Media Group.
