In news that will either disappoint or relieve viewers, Oscars 2024 streaker John Cena wasn’t completely naked after all.
The “Ricky Stanicky” actor had a show-stopping moment at the Oscars 2024 ceremony, seemingly gracing the stage in his birthday suit.
But photos have surfaced proving Cena wasn’t entirely stripped down. The wrestler-turned-actor wore a nude-colored modesty pouch to make it look like his privates were completely bare while rocking nothing else but Birkenstock sandals.
“I changed my mind. I don’t wanna do the streak bit,” he told host Jimmy Kimmel from the side of the stage. “I just don’t feel right about it, man. It’s an elegant event. Honestly, you should feel shame right now for suggesting such a tasteless idea.”
John continued, “the male body is not a joke,” to which Jimmy responded, “Mine is.”
The humorous moment marked the 50th anniversary of the Oscar streaker of 1974.
Presenting the award for the Best Costume Design category while covering his crotch with the winner envelope, he stepped onto the stage and said, “Costumes. They are so important. Maybe the most important thing there is.” John then looked down and said, “I can’t open the envelope.”
The crowd laughed as he pulled off an impressive quick change while the nominees’ montage played.
When he next appeared on camera, Cena — draped in fabric — announced “Poor Things” costume designer Holly Waddington as the winner. But the bit itself was definitely a winner with fans and trended as one of the top highlights of Hollywood’s biggest night.
Cena is no stranger to performing half-naked, having wrestled shirtless through his WWE career.
