'Throwing us under the bus' Ex-Israel spokesperson slams Joe Biden for Gaza war stance

A former Israeli government spokesperson has accused US President Joe Biden of throwing Israel under the bus due to his recent criticism of the military campaign in Gaza.

The US President has grown increasingly critical of Israel as he now calls for an immediate ceasefire.

But Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu remains determined to secure a “total victory” against Hamas despite the IDF having already killed 33,000 in Gaza since Hamas’ October 7 attack, where 1,200 Israelis were killed.

Eylon Levy, a former Israeli spokesperson who was suspended from his role before leaving in March, has told The Sun’s ‘Never Mind The Ballot’s show that “Biden is throwing Israel under a bus – but Hamas must be smashed.”

In the interview, he added: “Israel is going to continue after Hamas doing everything it can to bring back the hostages.

“We know that Hamas and Islamic Jihad are executing the hostages, starving them, torturing them, raping them. And we are not going to allow that to continue.

“I don’t think anyone expected this war to last quite as long as it has. Unfortunately, we are entering well into the American presidential election calendar.

“The war has become more than a distraction and a nuisance. It has become a political problem for Joe Biden who is nw coming under increasing pressure from the left of his party.

“President Biden knows that for him the ultimate foreign policy victory is for Israel to defeat and destroy Hamas and bring back the hostages.

“And if this war, which Hamas started, ends with that terrorist army still on its feet, still threatening to repeat the atrocities of October 7, that will be a shocking indictment of American policy in this war.”

Levy was suspended from his role after a spat on X with Foreign Secretary Lord David Cameron.

Lord Cameron urged Israel to let more aid trucks into Gaza.

Levy then replied: “I hope you are also aware there are NO limits on the entry of food, water, medicine, or shelter equipment into Gaza, and in fact the crossings have EXCESS capacity.

“Test us. Send another 100 trucks a day to Kerem Shalom and we’ll get them in.”

Israel’s Channel 12 News reported that Levy’s suspension came after the UK Foreign Office wrote to Israel’s foreign ministry to complain about the exchange.

Levy’s comments also come after Biden warned Israel that a ceasefire is needed, adding that Netanyahu’s approach on Gaza was a “mistake”.

Biden said: “I think what he’s doing is a mistake. I don’t agree with his approach.

“What I’m calling for is for the Israelis to just call for a ceasefire, allow for the next six, eight weeks, total access to all food and medicine going into the country.”
