Teen who killed 17-year-old Bronx boy shot him in the back as he was running away, prosecutors say

The teen gunman who killed a 17-year-old boy standing up for his girlfriend shot him in the back as he was running away, prosecutors said Wednesday.

Tyrell Williams, also 17, was held without bail after he was arraigned in Bronx Criminal Court on murder, manslaughter and weapons charges.

He’s accused of fatally shooting Laquai “Quai” Dash after a clash near the victim’s school on Cauldwell Ave. near E. 158th St. in Woodstock around 4:15 p.m. Thursday.

When Tyrell put Laquai’s girlfriend in a headlock, the victim began to intervene, authorities said. Tyrell then allegedly pulled out a gun, prompting Laquai and his girlfriend to turn and run.

“As the victim was running away, they were struck twice in the back and once in the neck,” a Bronx prosecutor said at Wednesday’s arraignment.

As Laquai bled out on the pavement, Tyrell fled the scene and ran to his girlfriend’s home, prosecutors said.

Medics rushed the victim to Lincoln Hospital, but he could not be saved.

Cops caught up with Tyrell on Tuesday and arrested him for the murder.
