Strangers who won £25,000 'romantic' trip to Florida say their 'still looking for love'

Two strangers were chosen to go on an all-expenses trip of a lifetime as a first-date.

Brendan, 45, and Rebecca, 45, both from the UK, were chosen to go on the holiday, organised by travel company Ocean Florida, in February.

The pair were chosen to embark on the romantic £25,000 holiday after being selected by accredited international matchmaker, Michelle Begy.

The chosen two jetted off over Valentine’s week, and stayed in a luxury Florida villa, visited theme parks and enjoyed a romantic hot air balloon ride.

Brendan and Rebecca were also able to go on a dolphin cruise around Anna Maria Island, attend a basketball game and sit front-row at Jernigan’s to watch Orlando Magic play on Valentine’s night.

But despite both travellers thoroughly enjoying the unique experience, they decided that it wouldn’t continue once they returned to the UK.

Rebecca, a single mum and Head of Talent and Inclusion, told Daily Express US: “It was a very intense experience. I think giving so much time to a first date was probably a tad ambitious, and optimistic, but had I met the love of my life then I would have been saying it was 100 percent worthwhile.

“I probably underestimated how much energy it would take going away with a stranger at short notice. There was a lot of life juggling involved in order to commit myself in. Don’t get me wrong, the holiday was definitely once in a lifetime with the amount of activities on the itinerary and the villas were unreal so I am still glad I did it.”

She said that she has exchanged a few Whatsapp messages with Brendan since being back but she’s “throwing it back to the universe to see if Mr Right pops up during my next adventure”.

Brendan, a Product Manager, said: “It was obviously a little disappointing not to make a romantic connection, but we got on really well and therefore we were able to enjoy the packed itinerary that was organised for us. It was definitely a once in a lifetime trip.”

He added: “I’m very happy with where I am in life, I have a rewarding job, and I’ll always continue to work on my personal development and fitness.

“I will be continuing to ‘look for love’ in the more conventional ways though, which is to say I’m actively dating (and back on the dating apps), although now I’ve got an amazing extra adventure to talk about.

“Rebecca and I have stayed in touch. We’ve both got busy lives in different parts of the country, so I don’t expect we’ll be hanging out much, but we got on well and shared an amazing experience, so I think we’ll drop each other the odd message every now and again.”
