Royal Family warned of 'horrendous embarrassment' as Gary Goldsmith's TV 'reason' revealed

Gary Goldsmith has made a “horrendous” decision to appear on Celebrity Big Brother which could cause further embarrassment for the Royal Family, according to a PR expert.

Princess Kate’s controversial uncle entered the house on Monday, and while he has so far been positive about his niece he has previously slammed Prince Harry and Meghan Markle.

Mr Goldsmith praised Kate as “simply perfect” and hoped she was in a “nice house somewhere” watching him on TV as she continues to recover from abdominal surgery.

PR expert Jonathan Shalit appeared on GB News to discuss what he believes is the real reason why Carole Middleton’s brother has chosen to go on the show, with money likely to be a key factor.

He said: “The fact is his niece is the Princess of Wales. He should just keep out the limelight and keep his life private.”

He added: “To be embarrassing his family in this way, it’s horrendous. If we’re honest, most of us have got an embarrassing member of our family, but we’re not the future King or Queen, so it’s a bit different.”

Host Patrick Christys agreed, as he pointed out: “You have to look at the situation that’s going on at the moment”, referring to how King Charles is undergoing treatment for cancer, while Princess Kate continues to recover from planned abdominal surgery, in unprecedented times for the Firm.

He added: “And ITV think it’s all right to plunk in the old uncle into the middle of that, who’s probably going to go absolutely rogue at some point and maybe dish all the family secrets.”

Mr Shalit acknowledged it was unlikely that ITV would have considered the implications of their casting choice as they only want to make good TV.

He continued: “I don’t think they’re sitting there thinking, at the highest level, about the implications. The only implication they’re thinking of is creating a cast that’s of interest.

“The pressure that family is directly under as a private family, let alone as a Royal Family, is immense. So having the brother on national television, embarrassing the family the way he is, is a pretty horrific thing to do, to do to your own family.”

It comes as the Princess of Wales remains out of the limelight while she recuperates following her abdominal surgery.

News of the operation was announced on January 17, with Kensington Palace confirming it had been a success and since adding that she is recovering “well”.

She is expected to get back to work sometime around Easter, although she has been spotted doing the school run in Windsor with her mum Carole.
