Readers sound off on the Kennedy family, Trump’s ‘bloodbath’ and subway security

RFK Jr. got the black sheep treatment from fam

Brooklyn: The Kennedy family showed their lack of character with their visit to the White House without one of them, the very accomplished Robert Kennedy Jr. Even if the Kennedys disagree with his independent run for president, a proper visit by the family can’t shut out one of them to play politics.

What a bunch of bullies. Family is family, and you don’t a) not invite him to the visit, and b) talk crap about him while you are there. Whatever the Bidens and RFK Jr.’s family think of his campaign, he is a nationally known and admired environmental lawyer who has cleaned up rivers and successfully sued giant polluters for decades. Yet his family and the Democrats pretend he has accomplished nothing.

Even if he were not accomplished, he is a man who lost his father at a young age in horrible circumstances. Shouldn’t the priority be to treat him with respect and some kindness, not to exclude him from a family event? The late Robert Kennedy Sr. and John F. Kennedy would be disgusted.

As an American of Irish descent, I am thoroughly disgusted that the Kennedys did this on the day of Ireland’s most revered saint. The Bidens and Kennedys really embarrassed themselves with their St. Patrick’s Day stunt. They posture as if Robert Kennedy Jr. is not good enough for them, but actually the opposite is true. It only made me want to vote for him more. Diane Pagen

Light beer

Hubertus, Wisc.: After being driven out of New York, not by St. Patrick but by the snakes now running the place, I still hit the local watering holes to raise a pint or three of that fine Guinness brew. Sadly, while at my place at the bar, I was served Guinness Draught in a bottle where I discovered it is no longer a pint but a measly 11.2 ounces! I may be a staunch conservative Republican, but I do agree with President Biden on one thing: Companies are screwing the public, shortchanging them on the full measure of products — thanks to his policies. I guess Guinness, along with all too many products shortchanging the public, is on my Do Not Buy List. Robert W. Lobenstein

Chain migration

Flushing: Apropos Donald Trump’s complaint about migrants: Frederick Trump, his paternal grandfather, was a migrant (Germany). So was Mary Anne MacLeod (Scotland), Trump’s mother. So were Ivana, Trump’s first wife (Czechia), and Melania, his current wife (Slovenia). Saul Grossman

Blast from the past

Bronx: Watching Trump at his rallies and listening to his rhetoric, I feel like this is what the country would have been listening to if George Wallace was still running for president. Fortunately for us, we were spared the arrogance, but apparently we have another bigot to deal with. Hopefully, we can avoid a horrible mistake and keep this demagogue — who is promising a “bloodbath” if he doesn’t win in November — out of the White House. David Gonzalez

Prediction

Manhattan: Having seen the butt-whipping Dark Brandon delivered on the Republican Deep State during his State of the Union speech, I predict that Daffy Donald will lose the election bigly, promptly whine that it was stolen and call for a civil war. Fools will obey the Antichrist, and the Daffy-predicted “bloodbath” that ensues will erase Putin’s puppets, who will join their chosen one in the big house! Eugene Rodriguez

Merged movement

Bronx: The majority of Americans are just as perplexed as I am by the magnetic affinity of MAGA followers of Trump. They seem oblivious to his evil, poisonous and revengeful words and deeds. No person with a healthy moral compass should tolerate his destructive and divisive tongue. Fifty years ago, the America I grew up in would have denounced his criminal, immoral and traitorous behavior. So why do so many still follow Trump? The answer to the MAGA enigma is that his followers can not detach themselves from Trump because they have become Trump, and to denounce him is to denounce themselves! Gilbert M. Lane

Election interference

Ormond Beach, Fla.: I was shocked, appalled and embarrassed at Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer’s call for new elections in Israel, which is equivalent to the Israelis calling for President George W. Bush to be removed after 9/11. Imagine that, when we were fighting Al Qaeda, and winning, one of our allies calling for new elections in America or for Bush to resign. Schumer’s comments are clearly pandering to the hard left and to Muslim votes that Democrats might lose in the coming election. Oct. 7 was the worst massacre committed against Jews since the Holocaust, and for Schumer, Biden and the Democrats to deny Israel the right to defend itself against Hamas is a disgrace and the worst example of playing politics before an election that I have seen in my lifetime. Charles Michael Sitero

Get busy

Brooklyn: Take an F train from lower Manhattan into Brooklyn day or night and you’ll find junkies nodding out, shooting up and intimidating straphangers (if you get near their turf) at the end of the platform. Hoyt-Schermerhorn A train platform, same thing. There is a police precinct at that subway stop! Why aren’t the cops doing anything?! You want respect? Do your damn job. Peter Magnotta

Danger disconnect

Long Island City: Queens Councilmember Tiffany Cabán said a while back that subway violence is a “one-in-a-million event.” Fast forward to today, where we have the National Guard deployed in the subways as a deterrent against violent crime. You know what else is one-in-a-million? The odds that Cabán will admit she’s a clueless politician who never rides the train herself and doesn’t know what she’s talking about. Sebastian Mannuzza

Welcome presence

Brooklyn: I can’t get over the “On the wrong track” editorial from March 7. How can you rationalize the assaults on the subway? I, for one, will not be as afraid riding the subway because of the presence of the National Guard. Marian Mondiello

Poor parallel

Somerville, N.J.: The Daily News has been in a death spiral for years. I’m sorry about that. I get it, papers are dying in the internet age. But you are making matters worse by the stances you take. In the old days, politically, you were the moderate paper. Dorothy Schiff’s N.Y. Post was the most liberal, then The New York Times, then the Daily News. Now you’re trying to be woke. Well, wokesters probably aren’t your remaining aging readers. The March 17 editorial “A helping hand for Haiti” is an almost comical example: “Imagine that the Jan. 6 insurrection had succeeded. Perhaps…” — oh, come on! Poor Haiti is not to be compared to that. Your fantasies about Jan. 6 would be silly even out of that context. Within the context of the Haitian situation, they are utterly ridiculous. Yeah, the terrifying Oath Keepers are comparable to the Haitian gang leader Mr. Barbeque! John Kelleher

Too easy

Brooklyn: Could you please make the Saturday crossword print a little smaller? I can still almost read it. It’s making the solution less challenging. Thanks. Rich Capellini

Update needed

Ann Arbor, Mich.: I continue to not understand why the Daily News app does not contain a replica of the Sports Final edition of the paper. I am a transplanted New Yorker and mostly read The News for the sports. I have to also subscribe to the N.Y. Post just to get the previous night’s sports news. Otherwise, I would never give my money to Rupert Murdoch. Please fix this! Steven Stein

Peculiar de-installation

Somerset, N.J.: Voicer John Procida’s letter makes a lot of sense, and I think the overwhelming majority of Americans feel the same way. Thomas Jefferson, the author of the Declaration of Independence, made many other contributions to the founding of our country as well and is certainly one of our great and important Founding Fathers. Owning slaves in his time was legal and a common practice of wealthy Southerners, like George Washington and Andrew Jackson too. It was ridiculous to remove his statue from City Hall now because he was a slave owner then. Arthur Bressler
