Queens man accused of beating 79-year-old father to death charged, cops say

A Queena man accused of beating his 79-year-father to death was charged Tuesday, cops and sources said.

Leo Macbryde, 47, was slapped with an assault charge in the Monday death of his elderly father, who had the same name.

The city Medical Examiner has yet to complete an autopsy on the victim, which could see the charge upgraded to a more serious offense.

Police took the younger Macbryde into custody after they were called to the family’s home on 43rd Ave. near 108th St. in Corona around 1:20 p.m., cops said.

Inside, they discovered the badly beaten father, who was rushed to Elmhurst Hospital Center, where he died.

The son lived with his parents, who have owned the home for over 30 years, shocked neighbors told the Daily News on Monday.

A friend of the slain man referred to the younger Macbryde as a “bum.”

“He used drugs and assaulted both his mother and his father,” said William Fernandez, 49. “He never worked in his whole life.”

A next-door neighbor reflected on the strange situation in the family’s home in the wake of the violent death.

“He didn’t come out much,” said Jose Flores, 24. “He just used to clean the house and sidewalk all the time.

“I’m shocked,” Flores added. “I can’t believe it’s actually real.”

Macbryde’s arraignment was pending in Manhattan Criminal Court late Tuesday night.
