Putin's prized £130M 'Blackjack' bomber targeted as Russian airbase blown up by Ukraine

A Russian airbase housing Vladimir Putin’s prized supersonic Blackjack bombers was targeted in a Ukrainian kamikaze drone attack last night.

Four blasts were heard the the high-security Engels base in Russia’s Saratov region – home to Putin’s Tu-160 “Blackjack”, Tu-95 “Bear” and Tu-22 strike aircraft.

All three are capable of carry nuclear missles, but have been deployed on conventional bombing runs throughout the two-year conflict.

Independent Russian media outlet Astra said sources indicated that three out of four drones struck the base, with security cameras capturing multiple explosions.

Ukrainian media today confirmed the strikes had been carried out by the military intelligence agency.

Regional governor Roman Busargin claimed all the drones had been “eliminated” over the base.

“The air defence system worked promptly and effectively,” he insisted. “There were no casualties or damage to infrastructure from falling debris.”
