A woman was stunned after she claimed she was asked to leave the gym for refusing to “cover up” after wearing a “sports bra” to the gym while pregnant. Posting on TikTok, Emi shared her “embarassment” at the alleged situation, claiming she knew the gym had a dress code but didn’t think she was breaking it.
Explaining her outfit choice, she said: “I’m wearing a tank top and leggings and basically I’m five months pregnant so I have a little bump. I go to a bodybuilder gym so they have mostly weights. It’s honestly mostly men in there and they have tonnes of photos of competitors up in their tiny bikinis.
“When I resigned up after moving back to the area, they told me that they have a new dress code where they don’t allow sports bras. I thought it was a little strange for a bodybuilding gym but I was like that’s fine I don’t need to wear a sports bra.”
And despite going regularly with no issues, Emi was in for a surprise last week when she said she was approached by the owner of the gym while wearing what she described as a “tank top and leggings”.
She continued: “I’m having a hard time dressing now I’m pregnant. The owner’s wife is staring at me the whole time I’m working out. The owner then walks over and is like ‘listen, my wife has an issue with what you’re wearing right now, we don’t allow sports bras’.
“And I’m like ‘I know you don’t allow sports bras but I’m not wearing a sports bra right now’. He goes ‘see I agree with you but my wife has an issue so you’re either going to have to leave or put on a top’.”
Emi explained how she felt “shocked and embarrassed” at being asked to put a top on, claiming other women working out were wearing “super short shirts”.
She added: “He just kept saying how his wife has an issue with it. Then I was like ‘I don’t understand, you’re a bodybuilding gym. You have all these photos up of people half naked but I can’t wear a tank top’.”
Eventually, after back and forth she was told to find a membership at a different gym, she claims. Describing the alleged encounter she said it left her “honestly shocked” and found it “offensive”.
Viewers were quick to flood to the comments to support Emi, with one person writing: “Who else instinctively rolled their eyes as soon as you heard ‘owner’s wife’.”
Another wrote: “Literally happened to me at the same gym.” A fourth chimed in: “It’s safe to say she [the wife] is jealous of you.”
