Pennsylvania father shoots son in self-defense, family dog killed in blast

A Pennsylvania man has been hospitalized and a dog is dead after a shooting at a residence in Bucks County in the early hours of Friday.

The shooting occurred just after 1 a.m., Middletown Township Police Captain Pete Feeney said, according to local outlet LevittownNow.com

Officers dispatched to the scene, a home in the township’s Langhorne borough, said a man had fired at his son who appeared to have been assaulting him.

Their names or ages were not immediately clear.

The shooting, which appears to be a case of self-defense, wounded the son in the leg and also killed the family dog, who was hit by shotgun pellets from the blast, Feeney said.

The son was taken to St. Mary Medical Center. His condition is currently unknown.

No charges had been filed as of late Friday morning.

The Township of Middletown is located some 20 miles northeast of Philadelphia.
