Oklahoma man killed wife, 3 sons and himself — 4th son, 10, survived

An Oklahoma City man killed his wife and three of his sons before taking his own life Monday morning, according to police.

Jonathon Candy, 42, was identified Tuesday as the shooter. He killed Lindsay Candy, 39; Dylan Candy, 18; Ethan Candy, 14, and Lucas Candy, 12, according to police.

The couple’s 10-year-old son, who has not been publicly named, survived the shooting and called police, authorities said. Investigators have said they don’t know how or why the youngest child was spared.

Cops arrived at the home on the west side of Oklahoma City around 9:30 a.m. Monday. Officers found five people dead inside.

Jonathon Candy had some type of argument with his wife, Lindsay, overnight, Oklahoma City police officer Gary Knight said at a Tuesday press conference. He grabbed a gun and fatally shot her, according to investigators.

“At that point, he systematically went through the home, shooting and killing their children,” Knight said.

Candy turned the gun on himself after killing his wife and sons, according to police. A firearm was found on top of Candy’s body, sources told The Oklahoman.

“It’s unclear what made [Candy] want to go through the home killing the children but make no mistake about it: What happened in that residence was nothing short of a massacre,” Knight said. “Those children were hunted down and killed.”

At least one of the sons was shot dead while sleeping in his bed, police said.

Cops had never been called to the home before and had no previous contact with the family, according to Knight.

All three Candy sons attended Mustang Public Schools, a district that covers the suburb of Mustang and parts of western Oklahoma City. Dylan graduated in 2023, Ethan was in ninth grade and Lucas was in sixth grade, according to local ABC affiliate KOCO.
