Off-duty NYPD lieutenant arrested for drunk driving after Bronx crash



An off-duty NYPD lieutenant was arrested for for drunk driving after crashing in the Bronx, police said Monday.

Lt. Edward Lawyerr is charged with DWI and refusing to take a breath test. No other vehicles were involved in the Pelham Gardens crash.

When police got to the scene on Pelham Parkway North near Westervelt Ave. about 9 p.m. Sunday Lawyerr was in the back of an ambulance being treated for minor injuries. His breath smelled of alcohol, police said.

Lawyerr, a 14-year veteran assigned to the 46th Precinct, was suspended without pay following his arrest.
