NY man, 77, arrested after exposing himself to teen near elementary school

A 77-year-old man was arrested Thursday night after allegedly exposing himself to a teen in the Town of Waverly, N.Y., authorities said.

Eugene Elston is accused of exposing himself from the doorway of his home near the Lincoln Street Elementary School, and then walking out of the house to follow the 17-year-old victim, local television station WBNG reported.

The incident unfolded around 5 p.m., according to the Waverly Police Department.

The teen got herself into the school and told staff about what was happening.

After the school contacted police, officers arrested the suspect at his home without incident a short time later.

Elston was charged with public lewdness and exposure of a person and then released to await further action, WETM reported.

An order of protection was also granted to the victim.

On Friday, the Waverly Central School District released a statement saying school employees had received a report from a student “regarding lewd behavior observed by an adult individual on the porch located at 53 Lincoln Street, just across from Lincoln Elementary School.”

While the incident “did not occur on school grounds,” district officials are “actively following up on the event” and collaborating with police.

“We remain dedicated to ensuring the safety and security of all our children, both within and around our school premises,” Superintendent Eric Knolles said.

Waverly, the largest village in Tioga County, is located between New York’s Finger Lakes region and the Endless Mountains in Northeastern Pennsylvania.
