Energy minister German Galushchenko said the overnight drone and rocket attacks were “the largest attack on the Ukrainian energy sector in recent times. He told AP: “The goal is not just to damage, but to try again, like last year, to cause a large-scale disruption of the country’s energy system.”
More than a million have been left without electricity, reports Sky. The attacks caused a huge fire at the Dnipro Hydroelectric Station, which supplies electricity to the Zaporizhzhia Nuclear Power Plant – Europe’s largest nuclear power installation.
However, Ivan Fedorov, the head of the regional military administration (OVA), said that Zaporizhzhia itself had also suffered a “massive onslaught” – with 12 missile attacks – according to the Kyiv Post.
Fedorov said that seven buildings in Zaporizhzhia were destroyed, with another 35 suffering damage. He told the Kyiv Post: “There are wounded, and we are in the process of confirming the number of casualties.”
