A New Jersey man who went missing nearly three weeks ago was found dead in a lake, authorities announced Monday.
Altariq Hickson, 20, was located in Sunset Lake in Roxbury, next to Mine Hill Beach, according to the Morris County Prosecutor’s Office. Foul play is not suspected in his death.
Hickson was last seen alive on March 6 at his home in Roxbury, authorities said. He was reported missing on March 12.
Cops asked for the public’s help in searching for Hickson on March 18, describing him as a 6-foot-1 man weighing about 215 pounds with black hair.
Hickson’s personal effects were found on Mine Hill Beach in Roxbury, and Morris County authorities worked with New Jersey State Police to search the area.
On March 19, a body was located in Sunset Lake. Investigators later identified the body as that of Hickson.
The county coroner ruled Hickson’s death an accidental drowning, according to the Morristown Daily Record. Morris County prosecutors said they’re still investigating Hickson’s death alongside Roxbury police.
Sunset Lake was also the site of an accidental drowning in June 2022. Two brothers, Jesus and Arnulfo Del Cid Sifuentes, died in the lake that year. Jesus, 22, died while trying to save Arnulfo, 17, in the small lake, family friends said at the time. The brothers worked in Kenvil.
