Michigan man stabs relative over Easter egg hunt: police

An elementary school Easter egg hunt in western Michigan got off to a violent start when a man stabbed one of his family members over where to hide the eggs, according to police.

Several people were setting up the egg hunt at Valley View Elementary in Springfield on Sunday morning when two organizers got hopping mad, cops said.

The suspect began arguing with a woman about where to place the eggs, the Calhoun County Sheriff’s Office said in a Facebook post.

A relative attempted to intervene in the egg-hiding dispute, but the suspect responded by pulling a knife and cutting his family member multiple times, according to police.

Officers arrived to find the man still holding the knife. The cops convinced him to drop the weapon and arrested him at the scene.

“The victim was treated on scene for some minor lacerations and is expected to make a full recovery,” the sheriff’s office said.

Police described the suspect as a 36-year-old man from Battle Creek, Michigan. He was taken to Calhoun County jail, according to police. The other people involved were not identified any further.

As of Tuesday afternoon, no 36-year-old men from Battle Creek who had been arrested in the past three days were listed in Calhoun County’s online inmate list, likely meaning the suspect has posted bail.

The fight between adults occurred before any children arrived for the Easter egg hunt, authorities said. No one else was injured in the incident.

Perhaps they should have just waited for the Easter Bunny to hide the eggs.
