Paqueta still has three years remaining on his West Ham contract, meaning his suitors would need to stump up a huge fee to get a transfer over the line. And if the betting investigation is concluded without any further action, Liverpool and City could be ready to tussle for the ace this summer.
“I have to do my work here at West Ham,” Paqueta told ESPN after his side’s 2-2 draw with Liverpool on Saturday. “I have an enormous respect for the club. I’m very happy here and, if I don’t say that, I’d be lying.
“Of course there are a lot of things happening off the pitch but I am focused on doing my best and end the season on a high. I started [the season] well and intend on finishing well. What has been said about Man City is all stuff from the previous transfer window. Now it’s about finishing the season and to wait and see what will happen.”
