Long Island nurse practitioner arrested for sexually abusing teen patient

A Long Island man has been arrested on suspicion he sexually abused a 19-year-old female patient while working as a nurse practitioner at a medical facility in West Hempstead, authorities said Friday.

Paul Igbide, 52, of East Meadow, was arrested Thursday morning and charged with one count of second-degree sexual abuse and two counts of sexual misconduct.

The abuse allegedly began on Nov. 23 of last year, after which Igbide had “inappropriate contact” with the victim on multiple occasions, according to a spokesperson for the Nassau County Police.

A family member learned about the abuse and reported the incidents to authorities.

Igbide was arrested without incident early on Thursday following a “thorough investigation” by Nassau police. He pleaded not guilty at his arraignment and is expected to appear in court on March 28.

The alleged abuse occurred while Igbide was working at West Hempstead Medical. The office did not immediately respond to a request for comment on Friday.

Located at 354 Hempstead Ave., West Hempstead Medical offers services of examination, diagnosis, treatment and ongoing wellness in the areas of general health, as well as OBGYN and family planning.

According to the company’s website, Igbide “enjoys the wide arrays of illness, injury general medicine [and] substance abuse treatments.”

“Every patient and their family is different with their own unique needs,” he says in a short bio. “My goal is to design an individual treatment plan to help each and every one of my patients to achieve the best outcome possible.”
