Long Island body parts slay victim is suspect’s cousin: family

One of the victims in a pair of brutal Long Island slayings that left body parts strewn throughout Suffolk County was identified as the cousin of a man suspected of disposing of their remains, the victim’s family announced Monday.

The family of Malcolm Craig Brown named the 53-year-old man as one of the two victims whose dismembered bodies were discovered strewn throughout parks in Babylon and Bethpage.

Malcolm Craig Brown’s cousin, 44-year-old Steven Brown, is one of the four suspects arrested for first-degree hindering prosecution, tampering with physical evidence, and concealment of a human corpse.

“Nobody deserves murder like this, and his cousin had something to do with it,” the victim’s sister, Coreen Bullock, told reporters on Monday.

Malcolm Craig Brown’s brother demanded their cousin cooperate with police, saying the victim’s family is desparate for answers.

“We’ve lost a brother, Steven Brown is our cousin and our parents and his mom, my aunt, they’re home and they’re suffering,” said Charles Williams. “He’s gotta tell his story so we can move on.”

The announcement followed Monday’s update from the Suffolk County Police Department identifying 59-year-old Donna Conneely as the other victim in the grisly murder.

The four defendants being prosecuted for attempting to hide the victims’ also include Jeffrey Mackey, 38; Amanda Wallace, 40; and Alexis Nieves, 33. As of Tuesday, murder charges have not been filed, and all four suspects are currently out with ankle monitors due to laws preventing bail from being imposed based on their current charges.

“This is yet another absurd result thanks to ‘Bail Reform”’ and a system where the legislature in Albany substitutes their judgment for the judgment of our judges and the litigants in court,” Suffolk County DA Raymond Tierney said in a statement.

Cops began their investigation on Feb. 29 when a girl walking to school spotted a man’s tattooed arm outside Southards Pond Park in Babylon. A subsequent search of the park turned up his other arm, as well as the head, arm and leg of a female victim.

Body parts believed to belong to the same victims were also found March 5 roughly 4 miles away in a wooded area in West Babylon. Additional remains were found that same day in Bethpage State Park in Farmingdale, about 10 miles from the first crime scene.

Police believe the situation is an isolated incident posing no additional threat to the public.
