King Charles still working hard and calls ‘good friend’ Canadian PM Justin Trudeau

The monarch, King Charles, fit in an important video call with his “good friend” the Canadian Prime Minister, Justin Trudeau, today.

King Charles who is continuing his head of state duties from behind palace walls carried out a flurry of behind-the-scenes duties.

During the video call, Charles spoke to a smiling Mr Trudeau and it is reported to be the first time they have spoken since the King’s cancer diagnosis was announced by Buckingham Palace.

The two are understood to have talked about international matters as well sharing personal well-wishes given by both the King and Canadian Prime Minister who was sitting in front of a backdrop of Canadian flags.

In front of the King as he prepared for the call, were important documents as well as a pad and pens for personal use.

As a young child in the 1970s, Mr Trudeau met the late Queen several times through his father, Pierre Trudeau, who was one of Canada’s longest-serving prime ministers.

It has been a busy week for King Charles as he met with the Ambassador of Algeria, Nourredine Yazid, during a private audience at Buckingham Palace, London on Wednesday.

He also met with the Ambassador of Mauritania, Samba Mamadou, who also presented his credentials during the private audience.

This comes the day after the King met with Chancellor Jeremy Hunt at Buckingham Palace ahead of the Budget being announced today.

Since January, King Charles has been recuperating in between treatments at Sandringham in Norfolk, coming down to London each week to see doctors.
