Kentucky parents accused of trying to sell newborn twins for $5K

A Kentucky couple has been accused of attempting to sell their newborn twins to family members for $5,000.

Zackary Davis and Jacquilyn Keith were booked in Jackson County Jail earlier this week and are scheduled to appear in court on March 25, local CBS affiliate WKYT reported Wednesday.

Cops said they were contacted by Davis’ sister-in-law, who told officers Davis and Keith had offered to sell their girls, who were born on Feb. 28. The sister-in-law provided messages and a recorded conversation to back up her claims, according to WKYT.

“Jackson County’s very small, the population’s around 13,000,” county chief deputy Zachary Bryant told the outlet. “Pretty much everybody knows everybody, so it is a sad situation.”

But Davis and Keith insisted they were only joking about selling their kids. Davis told WKYT that a relative was watching the twins while they were remodeling their home.

“Went out there every day. Brought money, food and diapers. Got to see my kids a couple of hours, went back to work,” Davis told the outlet in a jailhouse interview.

Davis and Keith both claimed the relatives manipulated Davis and then squealed to police.

“Hopefully, [the police] will see the mess that is going on, and we don’t have to do prison time for something we didn’t do,” Keith told WKYT.

The couple remained behind bars Wednesday on charges of promoting human trafficking, unable to post $10,000 bail.
