Kathy Griffin’s estranged husband has finally popped up amid her efforts to track him down — going so far as to hire a private investigator — in order to serve him with divorce papers filed in December, just days before their fourth anniversary.
Randy Bick on Thursday responded to the petition for divorce and, citing the former couple’s prenup, requested spousal support and attorney fees to be covered by the 63-year-old comedian, Entertainment Tonight reports.
The lengths to which Griffin had gone to find Bick came to light on Tuesday when she informed Los Angeles County Superior Court of her inability to find him — “despite her best efforts to do so” — according to court documents obtained by the outlet.
After asking him to leave their home, the Emmy winner says the marketing executive had not told her of where he was staying and even the PI had “been unsuccessful” in locating him. Though Griffin said she would continue trying to track down Bick, she declared her intent to “now take steps to enter his default.”
If Bick did not ultimately respond to her petition, Griffin would request a judgement of dissolution in her favor, per the outlet.
Bick’s response came just days ahead of a hearing that had been scheduled for next week.
Griffin filed for divorce on Dec. 28, citing “irreconcilable differences” and listing their date of separation as Dec. 22. The filing came four days ahead of what would have marked the anniversary of their 2020 New Year’s Day nuptials, which were officiated by Lily Tomlin.
The “My Life on the D-List” producer requested at the time that their prenup be enforced and that spousal support was not anticipated to factor into the divorce.
Griffin and Bick had been together on and off over the years, first dating from 2011 to 2018, before breaking up and getting back together in 2019.
Griffin had previously been married to Matt Moline from 2001 to 2006.
