Kate Beckinsale returns to public eye after health scare, hospitalization

Kate Beckinsale hit the red carpet in New York City Thursday in her first public appearance since she started sharing snaps from her recent hospitalization for an undisclosed health issue.

The “Underworld” and Guilty Party” star, 50, appeared at the inaugural King’s Trust Gala, where she opened up to People about the “rough year” she’s experienced.

“My parents have both been unwell and my cat … it’s been a bunch of things,” she told the outlet. “So that’s why it’s nice to come and see friends and have a little perspective. Everyone’s had a bit of a rough year, I think.”

Founded by King Charles III, the King’s Trust charity “aims to bridge” the jobs, skills and experience gaps that affect young jobseekers, by delivering “education, employment and enterprise programs” that help them “build the future they deserve,” per the official site.

Beginning in mid-March, Beckinsale shared several since-deleted Instagram posts, showing herself in a hospital bed. She began the posts in mid-March, in honor of U.K. Mother’s Day, thanking “those that love us and support us when it’s s–t and try to make sure there are some bits that aren’t,” per People.

She quickly noted that she had been admitted to the hospital and intermittently shared updates, including on Easter at the end of the month, when she posted a snap of herself wearing bunny socks in the hospital bed.

On the heels of sharing videos that suggested she was home around April 7, the “Serendipity” star reportedly deleted all hospital-related photos from her account three days later.

Beckinsale has not yet confirmed what she was hospitalized for but, on April 17, in another since-deleted post, shared a photo of herself wearing a shirt that read: “Tummy Troubles Survivor.”

She also responded to one concerned commenter noting, “I didn’t have a ruptured cyst since 2019 But thank you so much for your kind wishes,” per Us Weekly.
