Jets trade for Ravens right tackle Morgan Moses: source

A familiar face is returning to the Jets offensive line.

Sources confirm the Ravens will trade right tackle Morgan Moses to the Jets.

Baltimore will receive Gang Green’s fourth-round pick (No. 112) and sixth-round pick (No. 218). The Jets will receive Moses and the Ravens’ fourth-round pick (No. 134).

Moses, 33, played for the Jets in 2021 in head coach Robert Saleh’s first season with the team. He started 16 games before signing a three-year, $15 million contract with the Ravens the following offseason. That year, Moses played 1,022 snaps for the Jets, allowing four sacks and committing four penalties.

Moses’ base salary of $5.5 million in 2024 makes him very affordable for the Jets at a significant position of need.

Last season in Baltimore, Moses started 14 games at right tackle. He allowed five sacks and committed six penalties in 778 snaps.

This offseason, the Jets have rebuilt most of their offensive line. On Feb. 26, the Jets released left guard Laken Tomlinson, which left the team with three offensive line vacancies to fill (left tackle, left guard, and right tackle). Duane Brown and Mekhi Becton, who began last season at both tackle spots, are both unrestricted free agents.

The Jets’ offensive line has been an issue since Moses left in 2021. In 2022, 11 different players started games on the line. Last year, the Jets had 14 different offensive line combinations in 17 games.

According to TruMedia, Gang Green allowed pressure on 40.5% of their dropbacks in 2023, the sixth-highest rate in the league.

On Monday night, the Jets agreed to a two-year, $18 million contract with former Ravens guard John Simpson. With Moses’ trade, the Jets just need to figure out who their left tackle will be.

Last month at the NFL Scouting Combine, Jets general manager Joe Douglas told reporters Alijah Vera-Tucker‘s versatility gives the team flexibility. Vera-Tucker has played every offensive line position but center during his three seasons with the Jets.

But judging by the transactions the Jets have made so far this offseason, it appears Vera-Tucker will play right guard, which is where he began last season before being moved to right tackle following a hip injury to Brown. Vera-Tucker started at right tackle before tearing his Achilles last October in a win against the Broncos.

With the NFL Draft next month (April 25–27), the Jets could wait until their 10th overall pick to fill their left tackle need. Or Gang Green could sign one of the available free-agent tackles. Regarding the draft, the Jets have been linked to Penn State’s Olu Fashanu and Oregon State’s Taliese Fuaga.
