Gypsy Rose Blanchard and her husband have parted ways just three months after her release from prison for her role in the death of her allegedly abusive mother.
Just weeks after briefly ditching social media to avoid the risk of going “back to jail,” the 32-year-old Missouri woman announced on Facebook that she and Ryan Scott Anderson are “going through a separation,” according to a statement obtained by People from the private account.
“People have been asking what is going on in my life,” Blanchard, who served eight years in prison, said Thursday. “Unfortunately my husband and I are going through a separation and I moved in with my parents home down the bayou. I have the support of my family and friends to help guide me through this. I am learning to listen to my heart. Right now I need time to let myself find… who I am.”
The couple married in a prison ceremony on July 21, 2022.
The separation announcement comes on the heels of Blanchard publicly expressing her love for Anderson to her public Facebook, with several posts suggesting they were in it for the long haul. Other recent posts suggest a period of transition for Blanchard.
“I love soft love. The type where both partners are equally crazy about each other, constantly looking out for each other & always thinking of ways to make each other happy,” Blanchard wrote on March 2.
“My one and only all my life,” she captioned a photo with her husband on March 11.
A few days later, she urged her followers to “let yourself heal, grow and be happy again.”
Last week, Blanchard shared a photo of herself and Anderson, captioned: “With my lovely husband.”
Earlier this week, she shared a black-and-white photo of them smiling, writing: “Another version of me.”
“I feel like the older you get, the more quiet you become,” Blanchard wrote early Friday. “Life humbles you so deeply as you age. You realize how much nonsense you’ve wasted time on. You start to accept things for what they really are. You stop forcing friendships & connections with people & you just learn to grow.”
Blanchard in 2016 pleaded guilty to second-degree murder for having persuaded then-boyfriend Nicholas Godejohn to murder her mom, Claudine “Dee Dee” Blanchard. Originally sentenced to a decade, Blanchard was released from prison just ahead of New Year’s Eve.
Dee Dee has long been believed by experts to have suffered from Munchausen syndrome by proxy, now known as factitious disorder imposed on another, as she kept her daughter wheelchair-bound and had her use a feeding tube, falsely claiming that a healthy Gypsy Rose suffered from leukemia, muscular dystrophy and more.
The case served as the basis for HBO’s acclaimed documentary, “Mommy Dead and Dearest,” and Hulu mini’s series, “The Act.”
