‘Golden Bachelor’ Gerry Turner, Theresa Nist split 3 months after TV wedding

The “Golden Bachelor” is on the market once again, because Gerry Turner and Theresa Nist have called it quits just three months after tying the knot.

Turner, a 74-year-old widower and the inaugural star of the “Bachelor” franchise show and his bride, 70, announced their split Friday in a joint interview on “Good Morning America” — which also airs on ABC.

“Theresa and I have had a number of heart-to-heart conversations, and we’ve looked closely at our situation, our living situation and so forth, and we’ve kind of come to the conclusion mutually that it’s probably time for us to dissolve our marriage,” said Turner, a retired restaurateur.

The whirlwind couple insists they’re still “best friends” and still love each other. The attributed the split to distance and denied reports related to Turner’s romantic past had at all influenced their decision.

“There’s no doubt in my mind, I still am in love with her. I root for her every day,” said Turner.

Nist said they’d been hesitant to announce the split because their relationship had given “so much hope” to other older singles.

“We want none of that to change for anybody,” Nist said. “Don’t give up. Stay in it. Stay hopeful. ‘Cause we are.”

The reality stars’ nuptials aired live in two-hour TV special in January. The wedding took place less than a month after Turner popped the question, at which point he’d been choosing between contenders Nist and Leslie Fhima.
