Georgia mother ID’d as person killed at Ohio State graduation, fall deemed ‘not accidental’

Authorities in Ohio on Tuesday identified the person killed in a fall during a graduation ceremony at Ohio State University as a 53-year-old Georgia woman.

Larissa Brady was pronounced dead at the scene, according to the Franklin County Coroner’s Office. She fell from the stands of the school’s football stadium near the Bell Tower around midday on Sunday.

According to the commencement program, Brady’s daughter was one of the graduates.

Columbus police said the fall was not accidental, local TV station WJW reported. However, an official cause of death — still to be released by the coroner’s office — will determine whether it was a suicide.

The incident wasn’t mentioned during the three-hour event, angering some students and staff members.

“It just sent shock waves throughout the entire section of the graduates,” one of the grads, Anthony Mullen, told News 5 Cleveland.

“We are aware of an incident at the stadium during today’s commencement,” school officials said in a statement later on Sunday. “An individual fell from the stands. They are deceased. We have no additional details to share at this time.”

The school also offered counseling and “other support resources” to anyone affected by the incident.

An investigation is still ongoing, officials said Tuesday.
