F1 LIVE: Max Verstappen wants new Christian Horner investigation as FIA break silence

The build-up to the Saudi Arabian Grand Prix begins properly today with the drivers fronting up to the media in Jeddah ahead of this weekend’s second race of the 2024 Formula One season. Much of the attention will be on Red Bull and the FIA following off-track controversies which have dominated the news cycle in the past week.

Christian Horner and wife Geri Halliwell put on a united front at the Bahrain Grand Prix but the Red Bull team principal’s scandal will not die down. He was cleared of allegations of ‘inappropriate behaviour’ made against him by a female employee.

But after texts and images of alleged messages involving Horner were leaked, Max Verstappen’s dad Jos called for the boss of the team to be axed. He said: “There is tension here while he remains in position. The team is in danger of being torn apart. It can’t go on the way it is. It will explode.”

Horner has since met with Max’s manager but there have been claims Verstappen Jr could quit Red Bull for Mercedes in the future, after Jos and Horner had an apparent ‘blazing row’ in Bahrain.

And the FIA are also in hot water now too, with president Mohammed Ben Sulayem reportedly under investigation for allegedly trying to change the result of last year’s Saudi Arabian Grand Prix and for attempting to block the certification of the Las Vegas Grand Prix.
