Estate of Jason Patric’s brother intends to sue after deadly NJ Transit bus crash

Lawyers for the estate of Jordan Miller, who was struck and killed by an NJ Transit bus in January, have signaled their intentions to sue both the state of New Jersey and its transit system over the deadly incident.

Miller, the younger brother of actor Jason Patric, was crossing the street in Fort Lee, near Bruce Reynolds Boulevard and Lemoine Avenue, when he was hit early the morning of January 10. Police said the New Jersey Transit bus was traveling northbound and attempting to turn left onto Bridge Plaza around 5:05 a.m. when it barreled into Miller, who was on his way to work.

Miller, who was a customer service representative at the Port Authority Bus Terminal in Midtown Manhattan, was rushed to Englewood Hospital in serious condition. He was pronounced dead a short time later, police said. He was 56.

The 60-year old bus driver was issued two summons for careless driving and improper turning, according to the police report obtained by NJ.com

On Tuesday, James Lynch, an attorney for Miller’s estate, filed the notice of an intent to sue, the precursor to a likely lawsuit that will seek damages for medical bills, funeral expenses, lost income, support to Miller’s family and suffering from the collision.

“This is a senseless tragedy that should have never happened,” Lynch, of Lynch Law Firm of Hasbrouck Heights, said in a statement. “Mr. Miller’s family is beyond devastated by the untimely passing of their cherished father.”

In addition to his older brother, Miller’s famous family members also include his grandfather, actor Jackie Gleason, and his father, playwright Jason Miller.
