Driver ploughs into Xi Jinping's Beijing palace in possible assassination attempt

A new video circling on social media appears to show a possible assassination attempt against President Xi Jinping.

The footage, allegedly captured in Beijing, China, showed a driver being carried away by security outside of the main entrance to Jinping’s residence.

The Chinese leader lives in the Zhongnanhai compound in Beijing, which houses the offices of and serves as a residence for the leadership of the Chinese Communist Party (CCP) and the State Council.

A car plowed into the building, according to a video shared on X.

The video, shot from inside a moving car, shows at least 10 security guards dragging the possible culprit out of the car and down the street by their arms and legs.

The list included top named such as former security chief Zhou Yongkang, prominent politician Bo Xilai, and Sun Zhengcai, a member of the decision-making Politburo body.

The other names were former presidential aide Ling Jihua, the late army general Xu Caihou, and former top military officer Guo Boxiong.

The officials, along with more than one million others, were arrested or jailed in the corruption crackdown, leading some to speculate the arrests were politically motivated for Xi to stay in power.

Liu said the President had “addressed these problems, and eliminated a huge and hidden danger to the party and the country”.
