A recently-launched Chinese car company will introduce a new luxury SUV that is set to rival long-established models from Japan.
First unveiled at the Beijing Auto Show, the Chery Omoda 7 is a medium-sized crossover that is similarly sized to the Toyota RAV4 and Ford Kuga.
Whilst many Chinese cars feature styling elements from western models, the Omoda takes a fresher, more minimalist approach.
At the front, the car features a stark, flat nose and a honeycomb-patterned grille, which contrasts the sculpted front headlights.
Nevertheless, there are plenty of rugged elements that buyers have come to expect from SUVs, including a near-completely flat bonnet and exhadurated wheel arches in matte black.
Whilst Omoda has yet to share what the interior of the 7 looks like, the Chinese brand has claimed that it will come with a comprehensive amount of technology as standard.
One of the most interesting features of the Omoda 7 is a ‘four-zone’ voice assistant, which features microphones to pick up requests by front and rear occupants alike.
Other features include a 15.6-inch touchscreen, a 12-speaker audio system that the brand claims was designed to represent the feeling of being in a concert hall, and an intelligent fragrance system.
A plug-in hybrid, it is currently unknown what engine will feature in the Omoda 7, however some motoring experts believe it could use the 1.5-litre turbocharged petrol engine found in the company’s other cars.
Nevertheless, the Omoda 7 will feature a number of driving modes, with the Chinese brand claiming it will be capable of covering 745 miles per tank of fuel in Economy Mode.
Omoda is unlikely to produce the 7 as a fully electric vehicle, however a seven-seat variant could be launched later in its production run.
Whilst the Chery Omoda 7 is not set to enter the showrooms until some point in 2025, the brand’s first model is already on sale in the UK.
The Omoda 5 is a slightly smaller SUV that rivals the best-selling Nissan Qashqai, featuring sleek LED daytime running lights and a large and ornate front grille.
Despite hardly being the most economical model in the world, with its 1.6 petrol engine averaging 31.4mpg, the Omoda’s starting price of £24,000 undercuts many rivals.
