British woman who moved to America shares 'weird' difference spotted in first month abroad

A British woman who has recently moved to the US has opened up on the baffling aspects of American life, and says she can’t stomach the “weird” chicken on offer Stateside.

Make-up artist Olivia Christina started living in Los Angeles in February, and revealed some of the culture shocks she’s encountered in a video that’s racked up over 67,000 views – and provoked some heated debate.

It’s fair to say the Brit wasn’t overly impressed by the quality of American chicken and admitted she has had to change her diet since moving across the Pond.

“I don’t care what anyone says, but the chicken here is from another planet,” Olivia told her followers.

“It tastes so weird to the point that I can’t eat it. I can’t eat the chicken here,” she continued. “It is so weird, I don’t like it.”

Olivia, who hails from Manchester, said she was taken aback by the struggles Americans have had in identifying her accent, which she says is quite “neutral.”

“You know it’s not super Northern, not super Southern, it’s not really anything but people are so confused,’ she said. “They think I’m French, they think I’m Scottish — they just don’t get it.”

The Brit said she was struck by ride-hailing app drivers regularly asking her out.

“You can’t get in an Uber without the Uber driver asking for your number,” Olivia claimed. “[Or asking] if they can take you on a date or if you wanna go on vacation with them.”

“Like no,” she said. “I don’t want to do any of those things and why would you think you can ask me that, it’s bizarre.”

Another asked: “What’s wrong with our chickens??”, with others admitting it falls short in the States, claiming it was “chlorine chicken stuffed with antibiotics and genetically engineered to go from a baby to an adult in 1 month.”

One commenter pushed back on Olivia’s claim that her accent is “neutral”, writing: “Far from a neutral accent babe.”

But a fellow Brit commenting on the post said they had encountered similar issues with their accent after moving to North America.

“I’m from the Midlands and lived in Canada the last 2 yrs everyone thought I was Australian, more ppl thought I was South African than I was British,” they wrote.

Olivia explained to commenters that she has only moved to California for three months, and despite some surprising cultural differences, “I actually love LA.”
