Police in Waterbury, Conn. pulled a body from the city’s Fulton Park on Thursday, after receiving a report of a deceased person in the water.
The body was found in Lewis Fulton Memorial Park in the center of the city after officers responded to reports around 8 a.m. of a body floating in the pond.
“The body was removed from the pond and confirmed to be deceased,” police said.
“The victim has been identified as an adult male, and this incident is being investigated as an untimely death,” Waterbury Police Lieutenant Ryan Bessette told the Daily News in a statement. “At this time, there do not appear to be any suspicious conditions involving this incident, and it remains under investigation.”
Bessette added that they’re awaiting autopsy results before identifying the victim and concluded, “There is no additional information available at this time.”
Police have asked anyone with knowledge or information to contact the detective bureau.
The 70-acre Fulton Park is the work of the Olmsted Brothers, sons of Frederick Olmsted, who famously designed New York City’s Central Park. Fulton too is in the center of Waterbury, the 113,000-population city about 30 miles southwest of Hartford and 25 miles northwest of New Haven. Listed on the National Register of Historic Places, Fulton is known as Waterbury’s “Central Park,” according to the city.
