President Joe Biden offered “congratulations” to his likely opponent in the 2024 election after the latter claimed over the weekend to have won a pair of golf tournaments.
“It is my great honor to be at Trump International Golf Club in West Palm Beach tonight, AWARDS NIGHT, to receive THE CLUB CHAMPIONSHIP TROPHY & THE SENIOR CLUB CHAMPIONSHIP TROPHY,” Donald Trump posted on social media Sunday. “I WON BOTH!”
Trump claimed stiff competition from his club members on his golf course made his victories especially sweet.
“Very exciting, thank you!!!” he posted.
Later that night, Biden’s social media team appeared to mockingly undermine the former president’s achievement.
“Congratulations, Donald,” the Biden team wrote. “Quite the accomplishment.”
Though he’s an avid golfer, the former president’s alleged accomplishments on the links have long been questioned.
In Rick Reilly’s 2019 book “Commander in Cheat: How Golf Explains Trump,” the former Sports Illustrated columnist claimed he couldn’t corroborate any of the 18 club championship’s Trump claimed to have won at that point.
“There’s been dozens and dozens of people that can declare him guilty of cheating,” Reilly told the Associated Press following the release of his book.
The former president frequently uses golf as a metaphor for business and politics when giving speeches. During a rally last month in South Carolina, he estimated he can hit a ball “nine times further” than Biden.
Trump’s golf brand congratulated its leader last week for wrapping up a trifecta of home course wins dating back to January.
“Congratulations to @realdonaldtrump on winning the Club Championship at @TrumpPalmBeach, his third win this year alone following the Senior and Super Senior Championships,” @TrumpGolf posted on X. “Absolutely incredible!”
Trump’s “incredible” win in January would seem especially impressive considering he was in North Carolina on the first day of that tournament in Florida.
