The cargo ship Dali started moving at 12:51 a.m. Tuesday and within a half hour struck the Francis Scott Key Bridge as it made its way out of the Port of Baltimore on the Patapsco River.
As required by Maryland law, a state-licensed pilot was operating the ship, whose lights appeared to flicker before the crash. Vessel traffic has been suspended in and out of the port, one of the nation’s busiest.
