9 people wounded in shooting at rooftop party in Madison, Wisconsin

Nine people were wounded in a shooting at a rooftop party in Madison, Wis., early Sunday morning, police said.

A 10th person was injured by broken glass at the chaotic scene, according to cops.

None of the victims have been identified, but police said they were all between the ages of 14 and 23. None of the injuries were life-threatening, authorities said.

“It is truly a miracle that no one is dead,” Madison Police Chief Shon Barnes said at a press conference. “As a community, our hearts are hurting.”

Cops responded to an apartment complex near the University of Wisconsin-Madison around 12:45 a.m. According to police, officers were initially called due to a party involving hundreds of people on the rooftop.

“They were pulling up to the building when dispatchers alerted them shots had been fired,” read a Facebook statement from the Madison Police Department.

Dozens of people were sprinting out of the building, and Barnes said others were hiding in a maintenance closet, according to the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel. He said the department is likely looking for at least two suspects, because shell casings indicated two different weapons were fired.

No suspects have been caught or named.

The University of Wisconsin said it was unaware of any students being involved in the shooting. The school’s spring semester ended on May 10.

“The University of Wisconsin–Madison is offering sympathy and concern for those injured, along with resources and support to UW students who may have been impacted,” the school said in a statement. “Students or others affiliated with campus may have been present in the building or witnessed the scene.”
