A third person has been arrested in the fatal shooting of a man outside a Connecticut courthouse last month.
Nicholas Chiapponi, 26, was detained Wednesday, and the Waterbury Police Department announced his arrest Thursday, according to the Hartford Courant.
Chiapponi is now one of three people charged in the killing of Jarron Chapman, also 26, outside Waterbury Superior Court on March 21.
Chapman had just been granted a continuance in his case and walked out of the courthouse alongside a woman and his 2-year-old daughter, the Courant reported. However, he was greeted outside by gunfire from a man on a motorcycle, according to authorities.
First responders rushed to the scene and transported Chapman to a nearby hospital, but he was pronounced dead at the medical facility.
The first two suspects in the case were arrested last week. Cops cuffed Dante Howell, 29, on Wednesday, and Deera Nelson, 21, turned herself in on Thursday. Following Chiapponi’s arrest, police said they anticipate charging at least one more person in Chapman’s murder.
Cops have not publicly said who they believe fired the fatal shots, but the charges suggest Howell is the prime suspect. He was charged with murder, conspiracy to commit murder, criminal possession of a firearm, criminal use of a firearm, illegal transfer of a firearm, unlawful discharge of a firearm, first-degree reckless endangerment, second-degree breach of peace and larceny of a motor vehicle.
Meanwhile, Nelson and Chiapponi were charged with murder and murder conspiracy.
All three suspects have been behind bars since their arrests, with Howell held on $5 million bond while Nelson and Chiapponi are detained on $3 million bond, according to the Courant.
