Your Windows 10 laptop could look massively inferior this month, as Microsoft teases event

Windows fans are about to see some shiny new hardware …and it could make your current PC look hugely outdated. Microsoft has just confirmed plans to hold a special Surface event on September 22, 2021 where it’s widely-tipped to reveal its next generation of laptops. Microsoft has only teased the event will showcase “what’s next” from the company.

Shared on its official company blog, the Redmond-based firm posted an image of a glowing laptop screen along with the words, “Join us to see what’s next.” Although no other information was revealed in the post, it’s thought that Microsoft will upgrade its popular portable Surface devices which have become a huge hit since their initial release back in 2017.

As it stands, Microsoft sells a number of Surface-branded gadgets, including the Surface Laptop, Surface Pro, Surface Book, and Surface Studio. It has also launched over-ear and in-ear headphones, all designed and developed by the same department, which is lead by boss Panos Panay. He was also the brains behind Windows 11, which is designed to compliment the simple, sleek hardware that Microsoft has been producing for half a decade.

Microsoft’s next generation of Surface computers are all likely to enjoy a boost in performance, new design, and a swathe of upgraded features there’s another reason why they make your current machine look a little out of shape. That’s because they will almost certainly ship with Windows 11 preinstalled.

It was announced earlier this week that Microsoft will launch Windows 11 on October 5 and these new devices could be some of the first to ship with this updated operating system. In a statement, Microsoft said: “We are thrilled to announce Windows 11 will start to become available on October 5, 2021.

“On this day, the free upgrade to Windows 11 will begin rolling out to eligible Windows 10 PCs and PCs that come pre-loaded with Windows 11 will start to become available for purchase. A new Windows experience, Windows 11 is designed to bring you closer to what you love.”

Although Windows 11 will be a free upgrade on compatible devices, Microsoft has confirmed that it won’t release the software to everyone in one go. Instead, this will be a slow rollout so the only way to guarantee to get Windows 11 before your friends could be to buy a new laptop. That could make the new Surface PCs look more tempting than ever.

As well as announcing new Surface devices, it’s also expected that Microsoft will unleash a new Duo smartphone on the world as well. This refreshed smartphone is rumoured to be powered by the latest Qualcomm Snapdragon 888 processor and a much-improved camera system.

Microsoft has worked hand-in-hand with Google to ensure its Android operating system can handle the dual displays. While Samsung has enjoyed huge success with folding phones, like the sold-out Fold 3 and Flip 3, these both have a single screen that folds in half. In contrast, Microsoft uses two displays side-by-side, with content able to run across both – like the external screen connected to your laptop on your desk at home. The first generation Surface Duo was widely praised for its hardware.

However, reviewers slammed the device for its buggy software, which is designed to boost productivity by shipping with apps like Word, Powerpoint, Outlook, and others.
