One of the four people arrested in connection with the discovery of body parts on Long Island last month was arrested on Friday for reportedly shoplifting beauty products from a drug store, authorities said.
Amanda Wallace, 40, of Amityville, was arrested late Friday night on a petty larceny charge after an employee at a Lindenhurst CVS called police to report the alleged incident, local television station PIX11 reported.
Wallace, who was wearing a GPS ankle monitor at the time, admitted to stealing eyelashes and nail polish from the store when she was confronted by an officer, according to court documents.
“I forgot my money and really didn’t feel like walking back over,” she said.
She was arraigned on Monday on the petty larceny charge.
Judge James McDonaugh set the bail at $5,000, but remanded her without bail for the felony charges stemming from last month’s gruesome discovery of human remains in Babylon, West Islip and Bethpage.
Her shoplifting arrest violated the conditions of her release, the judge said.
“At the bare minimum, you should be able to go nine days without being rearrested,” the judge told Wallace, Newsday reported.
On March 6, detectives charged Wallace and three other people — Steven Brown, 44, Jeffrey Mackey, 38, Amanda Wallace, 40, and Alexis Nieves — with hindering prosecution, concealing a human corpse, and tampering with physical evidence by concealing or destroying it.
They pleaded not guilty to the charges and were later released without bail.
