WASPI MPs pledge to 'bang the drum' and continue calls for compensation in Parliament

“I am proud my party will pick up the mantle of holding this government to account on delivering fairness and dignity for all pensioners.”

The campaign group and their supporting MPs had a major step forward in March this year, when a long-awaited report looking at the issue came out.

The report from the Parliamentary and Health Service Ombudsman said the women should get compensation payments, recommending amounts between £1,000 and £2,950.

But the campaigners believe they should get substantially more, with one previous MP calling for payouts of £10,000 and above.

WASPI campaign chair said they already had the backing of hundreds of MPs in the new Westminster administration.

She said: ” Since the 4th July, we have welcomed support from hundreds of Liberal Democrat, Labour and Conservative MPs who have reaffirmed their commitment to compensation.

“We are grateful that Wendy Chamberlain, Liberal Democrat Spokesperson for Works and Pensions has already tabled a motion calling for the new Government to honour the recommendations of the Ombudsman’s report.”

She said the campaigners have written to every MP with a “thorough briefing” on the issue and they have had many positive responses.

The campaign leader added: “Alongside our direct correspondence, many MPs have been overwhelmed with constituents’ emails in recent weeks regarding WASPI compensation, highlighting the importance and urgency of addressing this injustice.”
