VIDEO: 10-foot alligator fights off wranglers at Florida Air Force Base

Wildlife officials had great difficulty wrangling a 10-foot alligator after it wandered onto a Florida Air Force Base, according to video posted on social media.

The creature was found under a cargo plane on the tarmac of MacDill Air Force Base on Monday morning, stopping all takeoffs and departures on the base until it could be removed.

The alligator resisted attempts by the Florida Fish and Wildlife Commission to trap it, thrashing around when an officer tried to get a rope around its snout.

After finally getting restraints on the animal and bringing it under control, it was safely taken away to the Hillsborough River, officials said.

“Our newest toothy Airman has been relocated to a more suitable environment off base,” the base posted on social media. “Special thanks to FWC for the assist.”

The base added that the FWC believes the animal was “pushed” out of its home by Elvis, an even larger alligator in the area.

MacDill is located in South Tampa, northeast of St. Petersburg.
