A deal between the firm and Thermo Fisher Scientific means doses will be bottled in Swindon before being sent to Pfizer’s depot in Puurs, Belgium, and then around the world.

Thermo Fisher will reportedly take on “fill-finish” duties – the process of filling vials and packaging them – from early next year.

It will join a network of facilities aiming to churn out four billion doses in 2022.

Prime Minister Boris Johnson tweeted: “I’m thrilled that Pfizer will manufacture vaccines in the UK, bringing hundreds of jobs and helping to deliver vaccines to millions of people around the world.”

The vaccine, with BioNTech, was the first to be rolled out in the UK.
