The tank was located in the back of the truck when a leak occurred — leading to the unexpected blast in the underground parking lodge.

The incident took place shortly after 6pm on Friday and left a 53-year-old man and 72-year-old woman injured, according to Fox2Detroit.

According to the report, the injured man’s hydrogen tank was in the back of his SUV because he was planning to use it for a weather balloon launch.

Deputy Fire Commissioner Dave Fornell told the news outlet: “When you look at the way the explosion happened, everything it’s amazing that more people were not hurt or killed and while these people were seriously injured, that the injuries were non-fatal.”

The blast was so strong that windows in an elevator shattered approximately 100 feet away.
