The former President lost last November’s election to now-President Joe Biden and has since hinted he would stand in the 2024 election race. At Sunday’s Conservative Political Action Conference (CPAC), Mr Trump said he “may even decide to beat them for a third time.”
Talk show presenter Bill Maher drew parallels between the Republican and a “shark” that “went out to sea for a little while,” suggesting he could return to the political sphere soon.
Speaking ahead of his Sunday speech, Mr Maher anticipated references to a presidential bid.
He said: “No one is going to oppose him.
“If you think that 2024 is not going to be a nail-biter or that he isn’t going to be the nominee, I think you’re being naive.”
Democratic Montana Senator Jon Tester, Mr Maher’s guest on Real Time, echoed the host’s remarks, saying be believed the former President is “absolutely the frontrunner right now.”
He added: ”He may very well be their nominee in 2024, I don’t think there’s any doubt about it.”
On Sunday, Mr Trump stood before a crown of supporters at the CPAC and lashed out at the Democrat who beat him in the US election back in November.
He said: “But who knows, I may even decide to beat them for a third time.”
