Trial date set for Florida ‘suitcase killer’ Sarah Boone

A Central Florida woman who authorities say killed her boyfriend by zipping him inside a suitcase over four years ago is now set to go on trial in October.

Sarah Boone, 46, is accused of leaving 42-year-old Jorge Torres to die inside a suitcase in the residence they shared in Winter Park, just north of Orlando.

Boone was arrested for second-degree murder in February 2020.

She initially told Orange County Sheriff’s deputies she and Torres were playing hide-and-seek and had agreed it would be funny if he got into a large suitcase, according to an arrest affidavit from the sheriff’s office.

According to Boone, the two had been drinking. She told investigators she fell asleep, but thought Torres would manage to get out of the suitcase on his own.

When she woke up the next morning, she unzipped the bag and found him unconscious, she told detectives.

However, videos on her cellphone contradicted her version of events, authorities said.

In one video, Torres is seen calling out her name repeatedly and saying he couldn’t breathe, local television station WESH reported, citing the affidavit.

“I can’t [expletive] breathe, seriously,” he was seen telling her.

“Yeah, that’s what you do when you choke me,” Boone responded, according to the report. “Oh, that’s what I feel like when you cheat on me.”

Boone, who has gone through several attorneys since her initial arrest, appeared for a status hearing on Friday and told the judge she was still unhappy with her representation, according to Court TV.

“Everyone constantly, constantly, constantly blames me why I am now on attorney number eight,” Boone told the judge. “I am not the reason for any of them.”

Her trial has been set for Oct. 7.
