Tottenham star Harry Kane has positive viewpoint on Manchester United transfer

Tottenham star Harry Kane could leave the club this summer. The England international is reportedly unhappy with life in north London in the wake of the club’s exit from the Europa League. And the 27-year-old could be tempted by a move to Manchester United, with his stance on the Red Devils already known.

Tottenham climbed to sixth in the Premier League table with a vital win over Aston Villa on Sunday.

But, while that will be enough to keep talk of Jose Mourinho getting the sack at bay for the time being, Spurs still face a huge fight to save their season.

Only a fourth-placed finish will be enough to keep Mourinho in the job following the club’s Europa League exit at the hands of Dinamo Zagreb on Thursday.

Kane, now, appears to want out.

David Ornstein revealed as much on Sky Sports over the weekend, saying: “I speak to a lot of people in football, and the consensus is that he would like to leave Tottenham.

“But he can’t say that publicly, he’s the captain. He’s very committed while he’s at the club, but he wants to go and win trophies.

“He’s said that publicly, he’s made it incredibly clear that he wants to be winning multiple trophies, the biggest trophies in football, and it doesn’t look like he’s going to be able to do that at Tottenham. I think he would be open to a transfer.

“However, that’s incredibly unlikely because Daniel Levy would want an astonishingly high figure for him.

“There were reports today of well in excess of £120million just for Daniel Levy to even consider letting him go, and of course Kane is under contract until 2024.”

Manchester United will, inevitably, be linked.

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer wants a new striker to replace the toiling Anthony Martial, who could be sold at the end of the campaign.

And Goal claimed last year that Kane was eager to move to the Red Devils, believing they’d represent a step up from Tottenham.

It was also said that Kane didn’t have any interest in signing a Tottenham contract extension – and that he was unhappy at missing out on Champions League football.

That could happen for the second year on the spin should Mourinho’s side fail to finish in the top four.

United haven’t signed a player from Tottenham since Dimitar Berbatov moved to Old Trafford in 2008, rejecting a move to Manchester City in the process.

In the time since, Tottenham chairman Daniel Levy has flatly refused to let the likes of Luka Modric, Gareth Bale and Eric Dier move to the Theatre of Dreams.

But United could be encouraged to make a move for Kane, with his stance on a move already known.

Meanwhile, speaking last month, Sky Sports pundit and Reach PLC columnist Paul Merson urged United to land Kane instead of Borussia Dortmund’s Erling Haaland.

He said: “I think Kane is the best striker in the world.

“He’s the only one who can make chances, put the ball through the eye of a needle, and also finish. There aren’t many centre forwards in the world who can do that.

“But it’s difficult. You have to think of your family; he has a wife and two kids, he might be happy as Larry where he is.

“It’s all well and good us saying he should leave, but he may be loving his football at Spurs. We don’t know.

“But if I’m Man Utd, I’m doing all I can to buy Kane. I know Erling Haaland is on a lot of radars, but there should be only one person on Man Utd’s radar: Harry Kane.

“If they want to close the gap to Man City, they need someone to come to that club and score goals the minute he walks into that club, like Harry Kane can.

“Because Kane has done it, year in, year out, in this relentless league.

“Who is to know Haaland is going to hit the ground running in this league? You don’t have time in this league. Timo Werner was scoring goals left, right and centre, but came here and has struggled.

“Sometimes I watch Kane and think: ‘Am I the only one who sees this?’ I’d be paying everything to sign him. He’s got the entire package.

“Man Utd need to win the league now, not in five or six years’ time. Don’t get me wrong, Haaland is an unbelievable prospect. But for me it’s a no brainer – I’d want to win the league now!”
